Measuring & Fitting

To achieve the sleek look, our industrial doors are constructed from narrow 80mm wide stiles. Therefore, they need to be paired with specialist hardware to avoid causing damage to the door, and compromising its functionality. We have sourced a range of stylish hardware to compliment these doors.

If the door frame already has hinges cut out, you can use these as a guide. If you need to measure for new hinge placements, we recommend positioning them at the top, middle and bottom of the door. For more information, please see our guide here.

For all of our internal doors, fire doors and external doors we recommend using 3 good quality ball bearing hinges. These are supplied with majority of our handle packs. This will be indicated in our product page feature and benefits.

For optimal results, we recommend employing the services of a skilled trade professional or a competent DIY enthusiast to handle the installation.

Door heights can vary based on factors such as local building codes, construction practices, and personal preferences. Standard internal door heights are 1981mm (78”), 2032mm (80”) and 2040mm. For more information on this, read our sizing guide here.

We do offer a range of internal double doors, but should you prefer to create your own pair using an alternative design, there are options. You can simply fit the doors together as a pair, leaving a small gap between them, or you can partner them with one of our T-lips which forms a rebate between the two doors and removes any visible gap when the doors are closed. Our T-lips are available in various finishes, including unfinished oak, pre-finished oak, white primed and black primed, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of door finishes. See our full range here.

For the majority of our door range, latches and locks can be fitted on either side of the door leaf. Typically, lock blocks are only used for hollow core doors, indicated by a printed ‘Lock’ symbol on one side of the top edge of the door. This symbol serves as a guide to indicate the appropriate side for installing the latch or lock. If no lock symbol is visible, you have the flexibility to install your latch or lock on either side of the door.

It may be possible to recycle your current door hardware if it complements the design of your new doors. Should you wish to also refresh your hardware, we offer a wide selection of both interior and exterior door hardware options which can be viewed here to enhance the overall look of your doors.

For optimal results, we recommend employing the services of a skilled trade professional or a competent DIY enthusiast to handle the installation of your doors. However, if you prefer to undertake the installation yourself, we have prepared a comprehensive and user friendly guide which can be viewed here within our ‘Technical Information’ section.

The ‘Technical Information’ section of our website provides lots of helpful guides and tips to support you in your new door journey. Read our advice here on how to measure up for your new doors.

We offer bespoke door sizes on most of our interior doors, and our external Aluvu range, to meet your specific requirements. You can easily identify the products that can be ordered in bespoke sizes as they are marked with our distinctive ‘bespoke’ symbol. To streamline your search process, we have also implemented a bespoke filter across our door category pages that allows you to narrow down your options effectively.

The doors’ trimming allowance can differ across our range. Please check the trimming allowance of the door you’re interested in, which can be found under the ‘Technical Information’, on each specific product page.

Painting & Maintenance

RAL is a standardised colour matching system which defines colours for paint, coatings and plastics. Please note, the finish of RAL colours may vary depending on the material and application.

We supply tins of touch up paint for some of the doors in our colours collection, which you can order from your local retailer. Where we can’t supply a suitable touch up paint, we provide you with the matching RAL colour to source the paint yourself.

We recommend sourcing a local paint specialist who can match to your door’s specific requirements.

Each of our coloured doors have a specific RAL number which you can find on their product page. We recommend using our Hardwax oils to stain your wood veneer doors. Our Hardwax oil is available as either a Flat Matt or Soft Satin finish.

All white primed or unfinished doors require finishing prior to installation with an appropriate finishing product. To ensure you finish your door in line with the LPD Doors warranty, please read our finishing guidelines here.

All of our external doors can be painted with oil/solvent based paints. Please read our finishing guidelines here to ensure you use an appropriate product to comply with the doors warranty.

We would recommend Sikkens Cetol Filter 7, although other products can be used as long as they have similar properties, being solvent based and microporous. We don’t recommend the use of any water based products, as either base or top coats. If a water based product is used, your door will not be covered by our 10 year guarantee.

Treatment can vary depending on the material used for the face of the door. For our unfinished wood veneer doors, we offer a selection of Clear Hardwax oils in varying levels of sheen, depending on your preference. We do not recommend the use of certain oils such as Danish Oil, Teak Oil, Yacht Varnish, Linseed Oil or similar on any of our internal doors. If you trim the edge of your pre-finished oak doors, you will need to treat them with the same Hardwax oil.

Building regulations state that you must install fire doors when converting your roof space. Fire doors and partitions play a critical role in ensuring the safety of occupants during emergencies, particularly in protecting stairways as essential escape routes. In this instance, all doors throughout your property would need to be changed to fire doors to protect a safe route from the loft space, to a suitable exit from the property.
